Hello friends,
Welcome back to Speaking in Tongues, a monthly newsletter / interview series from Black Eyes that extends the thread we started with our zine of the same name. If you haven’t checked it out, you can find it here.
In this edition, we offer you a bit more about what we are bringing to New York and Philadelphia at the end of the month, plus some reissue news.
Trans liberation, now and forever
One of the coolest things about playing shows again has been seeing how many young (and not-so-young) queer/trans/NB/GNC people have been in the crowd. Our shows in Philadelphia (3/28), Brooklyn, (3/29), and Kingston (3/30) are the first we’ll be playing under the overtly fascist regime currently running the country. This regime is actively targeting trans people and leveraging transphobia to legitimize its imperialist, oligarchic, racist, eugenic, antisemitic, Islamophobic, and anti-Palestinian genocidal policies. We say fuck that, and fuck institutions and politicians that hope to gain the good grace of fascists by selling out our trans siblings.
We are teaming up with organizations that provide direct support and advocacy for trans people. Trans Support of the Hudson Valley will be with us at our Kingston show. We’ve invited local organizations to our NYC and Philly shows as well. More info on that TBA.
Meanwhile, we’ll also have a new t-shirt with us. All profits from its sale will go directly to support SMYAL, a D.C. organization that has long provided direct support and advocacy training to queer youth, as well as education and advocacy training for schools and other institutions that work with queer youth.
Last tickets for Philly and Brooklyn
There are a few more tickets left for the shows in Philadelphia and Brooklyn. Here are links to both:
Cough Reissue Incoming
We’re also excited to share news that Dischord has remastered and is re-releasing our second record, Cough. We’ll have the first 75 copies of it with us at these shows - wider release date TBD.
That’s all for now.
With love,
Dan, Daniel, Hugh, Jacob, Mike
